"I'm going to have to invest in more painkillers," Nate muttered, wryly.

Wade patted him awkwardly on the shoulder. "You can always just sit back and watch the fur fly." A beat. "Literally in Wolvie's case."

"Well you got me there," Wade admitted, snagging another few beers.

There was absolutely nothing like envy in Nate's eyes when he glanced past the beer. Really. "I'll give them a few weeks."

Wade offered him one grudgingly. His beer, darn it.

"Ten bucks on Wolvie."

Nate held up a hand. "Baby," he said, with absolutely no regret at all, really. "I wouldn't take that bet."

"...do you need a DD? Because, you know, we walk everywhere here."

He was fairly sure it was one of those parenting affairs.

"Maybe I should take Rikku up on her offer of babysitting..." Which would happen just about never.

"She'd make a good sitter," Wade admitted. "Just tell her no boys."

"I'll remember that." He glanced at Janice, then fixed his eyes back on the television.

So maybe he'd been picking up more of these modeling shows than he'd like to admit to, lately.

There was a small almost comfortable silence.

"So... how long you keeping her?"

"Indefinitely," Nate replied, with a wry set to his jaw, "Or so it seems."

"'kay." He watched them walk the runway. "Can I hold her?"

Huh. Hadn't seen that one coming.

He ran a few quick variables through his mind and said, finally, "If you put down the beer." And made it like five seconds.

Beer on the coffee table, Wade just eyed the kid warily.

An unspoken agreement about not puking on each other and stuff like that.

Which would have been when Nate passed her over. Very, very, very carefully. "Watch for the neck."

She was very tiny and light and look at those lil' eyes of hers.

"She's... smelly."

"She's a baby." Some amusement, there.

The baby extended little hands and tried to grab stuff she didn't have the strength for, yet. Very red, here.

"Is the grabbing my mask thing normal?" Wade asked slowly, trying to pull away from grabby lil' hands.

"Yep." Very, very amused. "She seems to like it." The baby was such a trooper.

Wade tried to maneuver the kid so that he could gently pull the mask away before she tried to gnaw on it or something.

"Weird kid, Nate."

Nate smiled a small, faint smile. "She has the right to a few idiosyncracies." And made a reaching gesture, in case Wade wanted to give her back.

Once his mask was safely secured, Wade handed her back over.

"I'mma get her a toy so she doesn't do that."
