mouthy_merc: (drinking)

Apartment Above Wellspring Arms, Monday Afternoon

It would have been polite, as a guest, to have waited for Nate to get into the apartment before going to the fridge and grabbing himself a beer.

But, then again, once you've shot someone in the head multiple times, such social mores were no longer applicable, it seemed.

"Ooo! You even got the good stuff!"

[identity profile] spring-lost.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"Don't drink it all," Nate called after him, shutting the door.

He didn't pay much attention to social mores, anyway. "Get me the Belgian." He eyed the couch.

[identity profile] mouthy-merc.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Wade tossed a beer at his head.

What? He had telekinesis to catch it!

"So..."

[identity profile] spring-lost.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"You wanted to talk," he said, calmly, and did in fact catch said beer.

In his hand. Sometimes, you didn't need the fancy stuff.

[identity profile] mouthy-merc.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes." Wade nodded. "Yes I did."

A beat.

"About stuff. And things."

[identity profile] spring-lost.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Nate considered the kitchen's entrance for a minute as he took his seat on the couch. "Very descriptive," he said.

[identity profile] mouthy-merc.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"...shut up." Wade flopped on a chair. "This isn't exactly easy, ya know."

[identity profile] spring-lost.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"I know," he said, honestly, studying Wade. "I can't promise you anything. But you want to talk-- so find a good beginning and start."

[identity profile] mouthy-merc.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well... you know. He's back and all."

Why couldn't he just babble about the adorable actress from that show about people with powers?

[identity profile] spring-lost.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"And it made you angry enough to consider a kill," Nate observed, carefully avoiding any judgement in his tone. "Why?"

[identity profile] spring-lost.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Nate pursed his lips, and flicked the top off his beer. He took a swig. "You're going to have to be a little more specific."

[identity profile] mouthy-merc.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"He stayed at his village and said he'd be there and then went off and got hurt."

When did he finish his beer. Mmm. Odd thing that.

[identity profile] spring-lost.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ah."

He was going to have to take a moment to have something on that-- "Why?"

He had a feeling they'd need a crate. At least they weren't talking about him.

[identity profile] mouthy-merc.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't know and I don't think I really care, either." Now he was twirling the empty beer. "He lied about it."

[identity profile] spring-lost.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
That didn't pertain to him. He'd always had reasons. He'd always given reasons, when he could.

Nate watched him for a moment, formulating his own thoughts.

It would've probably been easier to have Irene here for this one.

[identity profile] mouthy-merc.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
He was gonna throw the beer bottle soon.

"So... what should I do?"

[identity profile] spring-lost.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
He thought of Dom.

It took a moment to clear her from his mind.

"It depends," Nate said, finally, "You've always needed-- something." To put it mildly. "But in the end, it's you who has to decide whether it's worth putting in the effort. It sounds like you've hit a point where you have a few-- choices. And I think you should take some time to think about what you value most."

He glanced at his beer, then back. "You've always been someone who had to be his own man," he said, firmly.

[identity profile] mouthy-merc.livejournal.com 2008-07-07 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"..."

Wade calmly put the beer bottle down and flopped back on the chair. His feet sure were interesting.

"What next?"

[identity profile] spring-lost.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
Far be it from Nate to admit when he was hopelessly out of his depth. "Um... You say he doesn't trust you," he said, "and you don't trust him. Trust takes more than a day, or a week, or a month, and it has to be earned..." Not that that was any kind of issue with him, or anything.

He scratched the back of his head, trying to conjure up some further response. "I can't tell you how to do that. No one can. So... I suggest we have another beer."

He had the oddest feeling there were two women somewhere out there who were laughing and didn't know why, but he wasn't going to acknowledge it.

[identity profile] mouthy-merc.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
Damn lack of a magical answer.

"Beer me, then!"

[identity profile] spring-lost.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
Nate pulled up from his seat, turning towards the kitchen. "What I do think you need to do is take some time to take a look at yourself," he noted, pulling open the fridge and rummaging around for some with a slightly higher percentage. "What you're hoping to do, who you're hoping to be."

And strolled straight back, dangling the bottle of tripel over Wade's head.

[identity profile] mouthy-merc.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
Which Wade snagged and opened quickly.

"If this ends in me getting cloned, replaced by a Skrull, killed, becoming Captain America, or turning out to be a mythical creature... so help me, I will kill the editing staff."

[identity profile] spring-lost.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
Nate sank back down on the couch with his own bottle. He popped the cap off with his thumb. "And you're still teaching."

[identity profile] mouthy-merc.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Well... you know. It's fun." Wade cleared his throat and took a long swig of the beer. "I wouldn't say it gives my life meaning and all that other sentimental crap you hear, but... it's pretty nice."

A beat.

"And there's a kid that looks just like me and it's creepy."

[identity profile] spring-lost.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
"Like it or not," Nate said, with a vague kind of smile, "You're contributing. In your own way."

[identity profile] mouthy-merc.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
"--pretty me, not normal me and I wanna punch him so bad--- Wait, what?"

[identity profile] spring-lost.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
"You're contributing," Nate repeated. Calmly. He sipped his beer thoughtfully. "And I suggest you smack him over the head... or consider duct-tape."

[identity profile] mouthy-merc.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
He was not contributing. He was... passing the time.

And stuff.

"Duct-tape sounds like a good idea..."

[identity profile] spring-lost.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
"It usually does."

Sure, Wade's teaching methods could probably use a little polishing, but...

"You could've gone back to merc work," he said, mildly, "Instead you're on this island, saving Captain America and teaching kids about the justice system." A pause. "From your own perspective."

[identity profile] mouthy-merc.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Well there were things and he was all unconscious and he made me a cake and shut up!" Wade snapped, finishing his beer quickly.

[identity profile] spring-lost.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
"It's a good thing, Wade." He was sipping his with a far greater amount of calm.

[identity profile] mouthy-merc.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
Narrowing his eyes at Nate, he got up for more beer. A lot more.

"Maybe I'm not trying to do the good thing," He said sulkily.

[identity profile] spring-lost.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
Nate glanced up from the couch. He'd like another one, too, but... "Maybe," he said. "And maybe not. I'm just saying you should consider everything you've done here. Yourself."

[identity profile] mouthy-merc.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Because I'm just a huge fan of being all introspective," Wade shot back, keeping three beers for himself. "I can crouch on a rooftop and watch the city and brood and think about my dead parents."

[identity profile] spring-lost.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
"I know a few good rooftops..." Nate was just going to have to steal one, then. He finished off his own bottle. "Like I said," he said, "You have to be your own man."

And he needed to stop denying his own potential; it had become a little obvious over the past while. But Nate had known that since Wade had come back and saved Dom, first. "And if the radio is to be believed, Cap wasn't the only one you brought back."

He had a feeling the television might have to be turned on, soon.

[identity profile] mouthy-merc.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
Which was an excellent bit of narrative as Deadpool snagged the remote to do just that.

"They were kids. It's not like I was gonna be like some sheriff type people and not help."

[identity profile] mouthy-merc.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
"Maybe." Oh look, Anthony Bourdain.

Yes, yes he was like a petulant child.

[identity profile] spring-lost.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
And Nate was just going to take a moment to grin before he let that one slide. His point had been made.

He leaned forward and stole a beer off the table.
