He wasn't in a hotel room. This was good.

And there was still a husband. And a hungover minion downstairs.

Interesting.

He wanted waffles now. So, he was in the kitchen. Making waffles.

"Mmm, waffly goodness."

He waved dismissively. "He's saving the world from itself so the future doesn't end up the way it was when he was there, blah blah blah... It gets boring after the tenth time you hear it."

"So that's where he gets the smugness," she said teasingly but thoughtfully. "How'd you know I went to see him?"

"He stopped by last night," Wade replied with a smirk at her comment. "Did his usual smug thing and left."

Aly paused then grinned. "So he's the Good Fairy from Little Bunny Foo-Foo?"

"I don't recall being bopped on the head, but yes, that works."

"You were encouraging your 'sausagey druids' when I came in," Aly said. "Don't be judging my analogies just because the thought of Cable with wings is hilarious."

Wade facepalmed and tried to keep snickering. "And now it's stuck in my head. Like some freakish Touched By An Angel episode!"

"Would one wing be metal?" Aly asked innocently, barely keeping a straight face. "Because that could hinder him in flight."

Wade paused. "Well, it never stopped Archangel when he was in that weird blue and evil phase."

"Mmm, blue and evil," Aly said thoughtfully. "Interesting combination. Stormwings have metal feathers. Good ones for fletching. They're magekiller."

"I understood killer and metal feathers in that," Wade replied slowly. "Now I want metal feathers. Damn you."

"Yes, I'm tricksy," she deadpanned. "I have some Stormwing fletched arrows. I'll give you some if you like."

"Awww," Wade was there, hugging her again. "You're the best friend ever."

Aly laughed and hugged him back. "Can you even shoot a bow?"

Wade snorted and waved dismissively. "Is there a weapon I can't use?"

She rolled her eyes. "Trebuchet?" she suggested hopefully.

"I understand the concept, but can't say I've ever had need to use one for real," Wade replied slowly. "And I did enjoy that thing on the History Channel about them!"

"We should build one," she said with a grin. "Can't have you only having conceptual knowledge after all. It'll do me good to know more about a weapon than you do."

Wade stared. "Marry me. Marry me and we shall run away and build weapons for fun!" A beat. "And Have Arashi come with as the servant."

Aly burst out laughing. "If I wanted to marry someone with a bit on the side, I would have married some stupid knight when I was sixteen. I'm afraid you're going to have to settle for friendship."

"Aww, but you could do wifey things like make me pie!" Wade replied with a grin. "And then Arashi and I would have a fling in the barn. We'd have a barn, by the way. Because all people who build weapons and lie romantically in the country have one."

"It would really be more like buy you frozen pie and pretend I made it," Aly pointed out. "Though if you really want a barn, we could go back to Tortall and find a vacan castle."

"Yes! We can! And then I can call you a busty wench!" Wade agreed. "And Arashi can also be a busty wench!"

Aly glanced down. "And you'd be lying about both of us."

"Shhh," Wade replied, putting a finger to her lips. "Busty is a state of mind."
